Midnight Cake

1 1/2 c. sugar

1/4 c. butter, softened

1/4 c. lard

1/2 c. baking cocoa

1/8 tsp salt

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

2 c. flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1 c. buttermilk

Cream together sugar, butter & lard. Mix in cocoa & salt. Add eggs & vanilla; beat well for 3 minutes. Gradually mix in flour & baking soda, then buttermilk. Beat well for 5 minutes. Pour into two 8-inch round greased & floured pans. Bake at 250 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.. Cool. Frost

Chocolate Peanut Butter Frosting

3 heaping TBSP. creamy peanut butter

3 heaping TBSP. soft butter

1 tsp. vanilla

2 c. powered sugar

3 heaping TBSP cocoa

1/8 tsp salt

2-4 TBSP milk

Mix together peanut butter, butter, and vanilla. Stir in sugar, cocoa, and salt.  Add milk, stirring until desired consistency is reached.
